Wisconsin Trout Unlimited (TU) held their annual Youth Fishing Camp July 14th-July 17th at the Pine Lake Bible Camp south of Waupaca, WI. TU hosted the camp for 20 lucky 12-16 year old students. The campers were even luckier this year as they all received a rod/reel combos during closing ceremonies from the Future Angler Foundation (FAF). This was the first year that the FAF donated product to TU’s annual event. The campers also received brochures and booklets on aquatic invasive species identification as well as an aquatic lesson plan and information about a national State Fish Art contest compliments of Wildlife Forever, a FAF non-profit partner. FAF Executive Director Nick Schmal said, “Next year we hope to provide both fly fishing and spin fishing equipment as this camp provides the attendees a great introduction to the sport of recreational fishing with supporting conservation messages.” The camp covered: knot tying, fly tying, fish shocking, fly and spin casting, bait fishing, aquatic invasive species, stream and lake ecology, and much more!
